Concise, comprehensive guide to working with synthetic lines

Modern lines are stronger, more flexible, and slipperier than traditional natural fiber lines. Most modern lines are braided rather than twisted, resulting in different splicing and knotting techniques. There are a bewildering number of synthetic line brands and types. Splicing Modern Lines defines products such as Spectra, Vectran, and Dyneema, and describes advantages, disadvantages and applications for each. This book has step-by-step instructions for various types of splices such as eye or lock splices. What I found most helpful were the appendices which contain tables and formulas for applications such as how to determine the mooring line size by the length of the vessel ( vessel length in meters plus 2 = line diamater in millimeters), and breaking strength tables. Particular attention is paid to each line type's susceptibility to UV degradation. This book should be in every sailors', riggers', mountain climbers', rescue responders', and contractor's toolbox.

Older Edition Works Fine

I ordered this trxtbook for my veterinary immunology class. It is the old edition so I saved about a hundred dollars. It worked fine.
I wouldn't be too concerned about getting the older edition. I'm sure it's missing some more current info but as a doctor you'll be going to the research for current topics anyway, not dusting off some old book from medical school.

great resource

I did not receive the book with the picture on the cover as shown on the website. I received a brown cover so it does not match my set. I was disappointed about that but the contents are the same and I use it quite a bit for my Sunday school lessons. I love the detail and story form that the author uses. It's an older edition but the story NEVER gets old!

The book color was a lighter blue than the rest of my collection.

The book came on time. No problems with the product itself. This book completes my wife's collection. The only problem is the color of this book is a little lighter blue than the rest of her collection. That is not a huge deal to me but it cost a star in my review. But I cannot attribute the color difference to any defect, it was probably a different printing year. The book itself arrived in great condition with no scratches or visible signs of misuse. The book was gently used.

Bible story 2, written by Arthur Maxwell.

I am a supervisor in a non profit Christian school. We rely on gifts and donors to meet our financial needs. Someone donated the Bible Story books and the head supervisor has been reading them every morning. However, when he finished volume 1, he realized he was lacking volume 2. I was delighted to find the book at Amazon at a very reasonable price. Thank you so much.

A good start.

Theres no doubt that you get your moneys worth with this item. Many aspiring artists are willing to pay any price to get that head start, so it makes sense that you can get a good, basic, foundation established for less than 20 dollars. I personally felt I got my moneys worth in the first section of the book. It goes over some exercises that will definitely come in handy such as shading, and building form. You can pretty much do your own thing from there, and it has alot of how to's on other peoples work that made it in.

However, it could go into a little more depth. The first things they have you draw (A chick and a dog) are thumbnail size, there arent any pointers/explanations about properly building a form with the shapes you make. You just have to play around until you can see for yourself, thats no big deal but dont be expecting a full package with this book. If you already have the basics down, dont bother with this book.

Best book on drawing so far

I have recently started to draw again after about a thirty year lay off. This book is the best of the 7 or 8 I have. It has a lot of example drawings on a wide range of subjects dogs, cats, wild animals, fruit, plants, really nice trees, landscapes, people, and horses The drawings are shone in graphite pencil but I adapt the shaded grayscale samples to colored pencil drawings. The example drawings are very realistic not at all cartoon or childish. This book has kept me interested and busy for about a month and I have not come close to doing all the example pictures. This book is well worth the price.

Very good choice

I bought this for my daughter. She enjoys drawing, and this book is full of easy to follow step-by-step instructions for many items that artists would include in drawings. See the search inside feature at book contents for examples of things taught. Also this book is more portable (paperback, not too thick) than some other drawing books my daughter owns. Good for traveling. Equally good for those who enjoy drawing and want to expand their library or those who dont particularly enjoy drawing, but want one book with instructions to enable better drawing for school projects, etc.

Highly recommend.
